What's Ahead and What's New

Wow, the last 4 months have been busy as heck. We have fished in the Marathon Fraternal Charities Tournament and the Key West Fishing Tournament Kick Off Classic. We didn't place in either, but a fun time was had by all in less than ideal weather conditions. We also were invited to fish in the Yamaha Contender Miami Billfish Tournament on a sponsor's exemption courtesy of Mustad Hooks, but our boat was in the shop getting some warranty work done on some gel coat problems and we couldn't make it.

The club has been taking off in student participation and interest from the community. Tomorrow there will be an article in the Key Noter featuring our club which is awesome. Our group meetings have been something special as well and we have had some top notch guides and captains give outstanding presentations. Last week was our first fishing trip where we had a chance to get the entire group out on a boat and have all of the kids fishing together. Look for the link on fishing the Marathon Lady for more details and pictures about our trip. Thanks for reading our site and please keep checking back in for updates. Our next tournament will be the Key West Fishing Tournament Swordfish Tournament on June 14th. It should be a lot of fun. Tight lines to all!!!

Well now that the Hog's Breath Tournament is over you would think that things would be settling down now for a while. That's not the case one bit! February will  be the month where we will have to kick the most butt and get ready for the next few months. Starting in March, the tournament scene will heat up for us. Our next club meeting is coming up on February 5th. We will be taking our club picture with all members wearing their Marathon High School Fishing Club shirts and Mogill Red Daze visors. After our picture is taken we have a couple of guest speakers lined up courtesy of Islamorada Fishing Club. I believe the topic for this next meeting will be fishing techniques for the back country and what's been hot.

Also this month will be a busy month for us as far as lining up our tournament schedule, securing more money, and working on sponsorship opportunities. I know club T-shirt sales are moving along at a very slow pace. We originally moved a lot the week that we received them, but things slowed way down after that. We have sizes medium-XXL with various fish prints on the back. The three fish prints are tarpon, snook, or marlin.  If you are interested in purchasing one or know some one who is, please contact Capt. Luis or Mr. Craig for available sizes and prints. Capt. Luis has been working hard to secure product for our tournament fishing teams. So far things are not going that well, but we are hoping things will turn around and more businesses will jump on board. Mr. Craig has been busy dealing with the financial side of things. He has been contacting local businesses and contributors trying to secure funds and keep these kids competing. Keep an eye out for upcoming Marathon High School Fishing Club fundraising events and check back here frequently to see what's new or going on!!
